Quest’anno Il Festival, si prefigge di regalare a tutti voi due novità assolute:
1 - la rara opportunità di ascoltare e apprezzare Artisti straordinari di riconosciuto valore internazionale, capaci di rappresentare con progetti originali carichi di affascinanti contaminazioni etno-jazz, l’arte e la cultura dei rispettivi paesi di appartenenza, tutti facenti parte dell’area del Mediterraneo.
Il nostro ambizioso progetto artistico è varcare gli stretti confini dell’isola e quelli più ampi dell’Italia intera e navigare emotivamente lungo le sponde del Mediterraneo lasciandoci contaminare, di volta in volta, da suoni e colori che, nonostante l’apparente distanza, sono parte di un unico patrimonio culturale.
2 – Ma la vera novità di questa edizione, è rappresentata dal tentativo di condurvi, attraverso quest’appassionante appuntamento, come trasportati dalla “barca del Mediterraneo Jazz Festival”, che mi onorerò di governare anche musicalmente.
In nome di una vera realizzazione dello “scambio” e della “contaminazione” di cui il Mediterraneo Jazz Festival desidera “battere bandiera”, essa salperà idealmente da Marciana Marina per compiere il suo primo “approdo” artistico sulle sponde della Turchia, grazie ad un sorprendente gruppo di “naviganti” musicisti, in parte italiani e in parte turchi.
Questa formazione quanto mai innovativa ed eterogenea offrirà al grande pubblico di Marciana una selezione di brani originali appositamente composti per questo evento e dal titolo assai simbolico:
“On the way to Damascus”
“…Eppure si è sempre preferito fantasticare, sognare quel mondo strettamente intrecciato con il nostro, culturalmente e materialmente”…
“…E più il tempo è passato, più i destini dei due mondi, il nostro e quello ottomano, sono divenuti indissolubilmente legati e più sono aumentate quelle fantasie, quei sogni”.

Riappropriandoci di una storia umana che già così profondamente ci appartiene, sono queste fantasie, questi sogni che da sempre condividiamo (proprio con coloro che ci appaiono tanto diversi) che il più ampio progetto culturale “Mediterraneo Jazz Festival” desidera raccontare e veicolare varcando, non solo i confini geografici, ma anche quelli di sola kermesse musicale, attraverso la visione artistica di “On the way to Damascus”.
Fantasie e sogni che sono, seppur inconsciamente, parte integrante del nostro comune patrimonio di “abitanti del Mediterraneo” e, alla ricerca dei quali, speriamo che vi lascerete investire e contaminare dai ritmi e dai colori di una “Conoscenza” e di un “Sentire” che, pur con stupore, continuano ad appartenerci.

This year, the Festival has decided to present you all with two completely new ideas:
1 – The rare opportunity to listen to and appreciate extraordinary artists of international fame, who represent the art and culture of their respective countries with original ideas full of ethno-jazz fusions, deriving from all around the Mediterranean.
Our ambitious project is to cross the narrow confines of the island and the broader ones of Italy itself to navigate with our emotions along the shores of the Mediterranean, opening our minds up from time to time to the sounds and colours that, despite the apparent distance, are all part of a unique cultural heritage.
2 – But the real novelty of this edition is our attempt to lead you through this eagerly-awaited appointment, like carrying you along on the “Boat of the Mediterranean Jazz Festival” which I shall be honoured to steer musically.
It is in the name of a true fulfilment of this exchange and influence that the Mediterranean Jazz Festival would like to hoist the flag and set sail from Marciana Marina to make its first artistic berthing on the coast of Turkey, thanks to an amazing group of navigating musicians, partly Italian and partly Turkish.
This mixed but innovative formation will present the general public in Marciana Marina with a selection of original pieces specifically composed for this event. The very symbolic title is:
“On the way to Damascus”.
“… and yet, we have always preferred to fantasize, to dream about that world so intertwined with ours, culturally and materially”….
“… and the more time has passed, the more the destinies of the two worlds, ours and the Ottomans, have become inextricably linked the more those dreams, those fantasies have increased”.

Recapturing the human history that already belongs to us so deeply, it is these fantasies, these dreams that we have always shared (in fact, exactly with those who seem so different) that the broader cultural project “Mediterranean Jazz Festival” wants to recount and diffuse by crossing not only the geographical frontiers but also the musical ones, through the artistic vision of “On the way to Damascus”.
Fantasies and dreams that are, albeit unawares, an integral part of our common heritage as “inhabitants of the Mediterranean” and, in our search for such, we hope that you allow yourself to be influenced by the rhythms and the colours of “Knowledge” and “Hearing” that amazingly still belong to us.
